Marjolein Marx explores the contrast in landscapes that are breathtaking on the surface, yet quietly changing and trembling underneath. Places where serenity and fragility, beauty and danger collide.
Every painting begins with a Polaroid photograph taken on location. I collect sand and stones from the landscape, grind them into pigments, and embed them directly into the surface of the artwork. The landscape doesn’t just inspire the painting, it becomes part of it.
As human beings, we move through life shaped by conflicting thoughts and shifting perceptions. Exploring the meetingpoint of seemingly contrasting worlds, my work reflects this duality between the Natural World and my own identity; not as opposing forces, but as parts of one continuous whole.
