Zion's sandstone walls were carved by water over millions of years and continue to move: rockfalls, flash floods, slow erosion. The canyon stays in motion even when it looks still.

For this work, stones and sand were gathered inside the canyon and ground by hand into pigment. The ochre and shadow of the painting come from the rock itself. The portrait emerges along the canyon's contours, made of the canyon's own materials.
