In her work, Marx explores the contrasts present in nature: beauty versus danger, stillness versus turbulence, creation versus erosion. These tensions form the core of her three collections: The MIND, The BODY, and The SOUL.

This series of four mini paintings, Fragments of Fire & Depth, brings together two contrasting geothermal phenomena from Yellowstone. Each work is built around one dominant color: two paintings in bright, crystalline blue inspired by the Abyss Pool, and two in vivid orange referencing the calcite-rich springs of the Prismatic Springs. Each painting functions as an individual fragment of the landscape.

Authentic stones, minerals, and sand from the respective locations are embedded in each painting. These materials give the surface a rough, tactile texture and carry a literal trace of the landscape within them. In this way, the works function not only as images, but also as physical fragments of a place.

Marx’s work is layered, earthy, and bold: an ode to the raw beauty of the world, but also a reminder of its fragility. Through Atelier Marx, she invites the viewer to experience nature as a place where attraction and threat coexist in harmony, while the urgency to protect these landscapes becomes ever more palpable.
