The Valley of the Stars holds one of the clearest night skies on the planet. Thin air, low humidity, almost no light or air pollution. Standing in the valley at night the sky reads as a dense field of points, structured by the band of the Milky Way. Almost everywhere else in the world, that sky is now hidden behind the light and the haze that human presence puts into the air.

The work carries the night sky into pigment. Minerals collected in the high desert are ground into the painting; the line of the Milky Way structures the composition, and a portrait surfaces along its arc. A record of a sky most people no longer see.
